HISTORY

The building was formally the Mornington Butter Factory. It was demolished in the 1960’s. It was situated at 871 Derrill Road, Moorooduc. The factory commenced operations in 1897 on a site then occupied by Mr Ray Wells house (father of Keith) and known as Bungower Park. Robert Nunn and J.G. Barrett were local business men and were directors of the company that was formed to finance the butter factory. The building had a cool room and a deep well that was dug by hand. Steam power provided refrigeration. The Annual Butter Factory Picnic was one of the great social events of the year for Mornington & District.
