HISTORY

This is a view of Main Street, Mornington in the late 1950s or early 1960s. The original postcard is from the Rose Series and numbered P.14408. Sennitt’s was an ice cream shop, and Thomas Hast whose real estate office is shown was a Councillor of the Mornington Shire, and author of “Alive and well and living in Mornington”.The book was first published in 1979.

DESCRIPTION

This black and white photograph of a Rose Series postcard shows Main Street Mornington from the first floor of a building. The view looks in the direction of the sea. It shows various shops. Sennitt’s, and Hast are clearly signed. Cars are parked either side of the street. The cars shown are VW, Holden, Morris, Austin, and Ford ,of the period which appears to be 1950’s or early 1960’s.
