HISTORYThe waters of the Tanti must have flowed clear and fresh into the Bay when the native tribes of Aborigines (Boon Wurrung tribe) gathered on the highland above the creek for one of the stopping places on their regular travels around the Mornington Peninsula. Miss Jean Olley can recall her mother telling of childhood memories of seeing their camp fires near the creek. Her mother spoke also of black men dancing, having corroborees on the present site of the Convent of Mercy and on the land towards the creek. During the 1840’s and early 1850’s the land between Mount Martha and Mount Eliza and inland to Moorooduc Road was held under pastoral licence by Alexander Balcombe and the Hunter brothers, whose runs had a common boundary at the Tanti Creek.
DESCRIPTIONThis postcard shows the Tanti Creek, with a wooden bridge. In the foreground are Ti Trees.
