HISTORYThis photograph is taken in 1941. The Pier was built in 1857. The township of Snapper Point, renamed Mornington in 1861 after the second Earl of Mornington was mapped out in 1854. It soon became apparent to the small community that in order to thrive without rail or adequate roads to Melbourne a faster mode of transportation needed to be achieved, and the sea road seemed the natural solution.
DESCRIPTIONThis is a photograph taken from the pier, looking toward the shore. It shows sailing boats moored at the shore line. There are cars parked close to the Pier, and quite a lot of people around.
