HISTORYThe Mornington Pier was built in 1857. The submission to the Ports and Harbours Commission (est 1854) was initiated at a public meeting in the Tanti Hotel, chaired by Alex Balcombe J.P. This coincided with a survey of the harbour by R. Adams which resulted in a proposal to give the local community an outlet for their produce etc., also a shelter for bay shipping during storms. The cost of the new jetty was $4000.
DESCRIPTIONThis is a view of the Pier from the beach. There are a group of people in the foreground watching the activities on the Pier. There is a paddle steamer moored at the Pier. There are a small boats scattered around.
