HISTORY

Thomas Alchin built the Tanti Hotel in the 1850’s. He was married to Sarah Jagger on the 2nd June 1857. She wrote “when we were married he bullt the Tanti “. The Tanti Hotel was used as a meeting place for many years. in 1951 it was a dilapidated weather board building. There was a small front verandah with brick pillars on each side of the main entry and the bars were small and dingy. A cockatoo, approaching fifty years of age and minus many feathers, held court there and was renowned many miles afield. Mr Minzenmay the jeweller had retired to his acre where he grew beautiful fruit and vegetables, would walk the few yards to the side bar of the Tanti Hotel, which kept his own special beer stein for him. He loved to smoke a large cigar with his beer.

DESCRIPTION

This shows a white weather board building with a pitched corrugated iron roof, and a verandah across the front. There are three signs, one on the sash window saying “Bar” and beside that an advertisement for Fosters. On the roof is a large Hotel sign. There are two vehicles parked in front of the Hotel. On the left there is some sort of open top bus, carrying five people. On the right is a horse and cart carrying barrels. This appears to be a beer delivery. The driver of the bus is stood beside it, and the driver of the horse and cart is stood holding the bridle of the horse.
