HISTORY

This is a photo of Stephen Absalom. He was born in 1823 in Wilcot, Wiltshire, England. He married Anne Elizabeth Smith on the 1st May 1852, and they travelled to Australia on the Rose of Sharon on the 10th January 1855. They arrived in Sydney in April 1855 after a journey of 3 months. He bought land and helped develop an area known as Green Island. This was in the Bentons, Craigie Road area. He established a slaughter yard, and butchers with his sons, Stephen, William and John.

DESCRIPTION

This shows a gentleman in a striped apron, jacket and hat. He is stood beside his white horse and cart.
