HISTORYMills Beach was also known as East Beach. An indignant letter was written to the Council in 1902 by Mills (Mills Beach) who registered “an emphatic protest against any further destruction of tea tree by the Council on the frontage”. The Council indignantly replied to this letter by explaining that only dead trees had been removed to allow new ones to spring up. “on no account was anyone allowed to touch growing trees”. A deputation went to the Council and a Committee was formed to work in harmony with the Council to assist it in the task of maintaining the foreshore. Throughout the years the Committee has done excellent work, cutting tracks through the tea tree, controlling the building of bathing boxes, providing dressing shelters, establishing car parks, and preventing erosion.
DESCRIPTIONThis is a view from the beach looking out to Port Philip Bay. There are large rocks to the right of the picture, and scattered rocks in the foreground.
