HISTORY

The date is unknown for this photograph, but by the clothes of the people shown, it is probably the late 1800’s. It is taken in Main Street opposite Queen Street. The picket fence is the boundary of the first school in the area. The archway in the building was believed to be be the entrance to a funeral parlour. In later years it became Penders Newsagency.

DESCRIPTION

This photograph shows a line of people in Victorian dress outside a brick building with a large arched doorway. The women are wearing long dresses and hats. The men have three piece suits, and hats.There is a verandah with four posts to the edge of the pavement. To the left of the building is a picket fence, and a girl is pushing a pram, and a black dog is shown.
