HISTORY

This telescopic group of postcards showing the various picturesque views of the Peninsula is a typical example of a popular method of souvenir in the 40’s and 50’s. The area was very popular for holidays.

DESCRIPTION

This is a wonderful postcard which opens up to show 8 views in colour of various beauty spots around the Peninsula. On the reverse are black and white scenic views. The opening picture is of Bay Street, Frankston. This shows a wide dual carriageway road, with a strip of grass down the centre with Cypress trees. On either side of the road are shops and businesses. Most of the buildings have verandahs to the pavement edge, looking very picturesque. There are cars parked on either side of the road. One of the buildings is signed “Palmers”. Another has a Coca Cola sign. In the foreground is a garden, with several stone steps, and what appears to be a drinking fountain.
