HISTORY

The entrances to the park are built from local brown stone, and the recently renovated Band Pavilion on the western boundary were built in 1932 to give the unemployed work during the Depression. The park itself was installed in 1863 when 10 acres were reserved as the site for a public park for “promenade and recreation”. Near the entrance are an interpretive panel and a flagpole surrounded by bollards with small plaques at the base, both of which note aspects of the Park’s history.

DESCRIPTION

This is a copy of a water colour painting showing the Gate to Mornington Park. It shows an arched gate sloping down to a small wall either side. It is made from local stone.
