HISTORY

The road links on the Peninsula were poor in the 1860’s, but with the erection of the jetty, a twice weekly service to Melbourne brought news of the outside world, mail and newspapers, as well as carrying produce and people. In 1858 the steamer Geelong left Queen’s Wharf for Schnapper Point every Saturday at 1pm, and Railway Pier at 2pm. A surprisingly large number of people made use of the steamer. some coming down for recreation and may on business.
