HISTORY

Foxey’s Hangout is a local landmark and an historic site at the corner of Balnarring and TubbaRubba Roads, Moorooduc. A large gum tree at the site was used to display the bodies of dead foxes trapped by two local trappers who were in competition for the largest tally of foxes annually.

DESCRIPTION

Group of trees beside a dirt road. The large tree in the foreground has several signs attached which are illegible at this distance. The dead bodies of several foxes hang from each side of the tree indicating numbers trapped by two local trappers, Jack Johnson and Lou Connell. Jack Johnson was murdered in 1946 by a man named McKenzie. . The reason why was never discovered.
