HISTORY

Elma Downward was the eldest of four daughters (Elma, Ethel, Elsie and Ivy) of Alfred and Josephine (nee Kerr) Downward. She was born in 1882; her mother’s confinement as with most of her births was in Melbourne. She had an older brother, Herbert. There were two other siblings, Rupert and Eileen, who died in infancy. Elma received part of her education at the Convent of Our Lady of Mercy and married Malcolm Crooks at Mornington in 1908 and the couple made their home on a farm near Corowa, N.S.W. Sadly Elma died of post operative complications in 1909.
