HISTORYIvy Downward was the fourth daughter of Alfred and Josephine Downward, born at Schnapper Point on 21 September 1890. She lived with her parents, brother Herbert and her sisters at ‘Redwood’, Mornington until her marriage to Wilfred Pitt. She returned in later life to live at ‘Redwood’ after becoming estranged from her husband. She and her sister Elsie inherited the house from their father in 1930 and Ivy lived on there until her death in 1962. Wilfred Pitt inherited Ivy’s share of the property and lived there until Elsie’s death when the estate was sold for subdivision and ‘Redwood’ was demolished.
DESCRIPTIONHead and shoulders portrait of young girl in a dark coloured high necked dress. There appears to be a dark coat with prominent buttons over the dress. She has a fringe and very thick long curly hair covering her shoulders in front and with a bow in her hair.
