HISTORY

Trooper Richard George Edwards purchased Darriman,11 - 13 Queen Street, Mornington, in 1923 for his wife and daughter Eileen, who had married Herbert Downward in 1916. The house cost 2,000 pounds, provided in part by the winnings of ‘Darriman’, a racehorse owned by George Edwards. On the death of Mrs Edwards it became Eileen’s house and she and her husband used it as their town house whereas the Balnarring farm ‘Maxwelton’ was their rural home.

DESCRIPTION

An Edwardian single storied house with verandah behind a white picket fence on the street. The house has a pitched roof with a single, tall chimney. There is a driveway on the left with open gates, a small pedestrian gateway to the right and a tall tree between house and fence. A shrub conceals what appears to be an extension of the house.
