HISTORYThe ship in this image is the replica of the ship HMS Bark Endeavour in which James Cook arrived at Botany Bay in 1774. The construction in Fremantle of the replica was completed in 1994 and the ship made several journeys along the coast of Australia and to New Zealand between 1994 and 1996. It returned to Fremantle in early 1996, visiting various Victorian ports along the way, including Mornington where she was greeted with great enthusiasm. During these journeys the replica was used as a training ship or young sailors between 16 and 23 years. The ship is now owned by the Australian Maritime Museum.
