HISTORYThe Royal Hotel was built in the late 1850s and is still in use as a hotel with bar, dining rooms and accommodation today. Its facade and verandas were extensively restored c1984. It’s stables at the rear (demolished c1970) were once the depot for Cobb and Co. Coaches. Kirkpatrick’s Hotel, built in the early 1870s, still functions as a hotel. It was renovated in Spanish Mission style in the 1920s. It’s original roof line is still discernible. Both hotels were popular holiday destinations.
DESCRIPTIONA wide street in Mornington with a Spanish styled double storied building on a corner(Kirkpatrick’s Hotel) and another two storied building with ‘Royal Hotel’ clearly marked on a side wall.
