HISTORY

This photograph is of the original home of the Mornington Yacht Club - a boat shed beside the Scout Hall on Shire Hall Beach. The Yacht Club was founded in 1943. In the 1960s Council resolved to reclaim about 3 acres of shallow backwater adjacent to the Mornington pier, part of which was earmarked for the yacht club for a club house, boat storage and a slip way to launch the yachts. The land reclamation was completed in 1966.

DESCRIPTION

This photograph of a sunny scene at a beach includes a small bay on the left bordered by a sandy beach with a cliff behind containing houses among trees and shrubs and clear blue sky above that. The beach is populated by many people enjoying the sunshine, beach and water. In the foreground there is a wooden walkway extending out to sea on the left, two cars are backed on to the shallows in front of a yellow, bare masted yacht. There are boat sheds at the rear of the beach and a larger building to the right, its upper half is white and the lower is green. There are ten or more small yachts in a group on the edge of the beach in front of the group of boat sheds.
