HISTORY

The original Mornington Shire Art Gallery was installed in a house in Vancouver Street converted to a gallery by a team of volunteers. The original collection was assembled by Alan McCulloch, the Herald Art Critic who lived at Shoreham and who became the first Director of the Gallery. The Gallery was opened in April 1971 and was awarded membership of the Regional Galleries Association of Victoria. The Committee of Management looked to a new Gallery to be built to international standards on the future Civic Reserve. This was achieved in 1992 and it is now the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, the subject of this photograph.
