HISTORYThe Mornington Fire Brigade was founded in 1916, commenced operation in January 1917 and occupied this building on Main Street Mornington from 1919. It provided storage for the fire engine and fire fighting equipment and also hosted meetings and fund raising activities. In 1969 the Brigade moved to a purpose built structure further along Main Street near Elizabeth Street.
DESCRIPTIONA double fronted single storied building has a pediment with its central arch signed ‘Fire Station 1919’. Its shop front windows are replaced by wide doors with ‘Fire Station Keep Clear’ on each door. There is a Real Estate Agent’s sign above the left door. The building is on a street corner.
