HISTORYThe Mornington Fire Brigade moved in 1969 to a purpose built structure on Main Street near Elizabeth Street. In 1986 the Brigade purchased a 12 X 15 metre shed which was placed to the rear of the fire station to house a service van, a bus and other brigade equipment. Until the early 1980s the firemen were summoned to fight fires by telephone and the siren on top of the high tower. Then a paging system was installed and reliance on the siren which disturbed the neighbourhood in the midnight to dawn period decreased as the number of pagers grew. More modern communication systems have developed since then as has upgrading of fire fighting vehicles over the years.Later the 000 emergency number became operational
DESCRIPTIONThe rear of a terracotta coloured single story building is in the background with a tall metal tower on the left and a shed close to the footpath on the right. The shed has the letters CFA on its upper facade and beside it is a blue tank on a metal stand about double the height of the building and a pathway leads from the street to the rear building.
