He was Captain 1973 to 1980, President of Victorian Urban Fire Brigades Association 1993 and received Life Membership of MFB in 1987. Joan Downward was the widow of Harry Downward who was a prominent member of MFB for many years.
DESCRIPTIONA flagpole stands on cleared land in front of a grey brick wall. It is flying a white flag with a red image and lettering which are unidentifiable. Three people are standing at the foot of the pole. The older two are Joan Downward and Michael Taylor. The flag raising ceremony marked the opening of a new Fire Station on former High School land at the corner of Nepean Highway and Separation Street Mornington.
