HISTORY

The Moorooduc Bush Fire Brigade began in 1954. Before this it had been a branch of the Mornington Bush Fire Brigade from about 1928 at which time fire equipment for the Mornington area was stored in four locations - Mornington, Moorooduc, Mount Eliza and Mount Martha, known as the 4 M’s.. Bush Fire Brigades coexisted with the CFA brigades for a time and eventually the CFA brigades took over. The men in the photograph are Harry Downward (Mornington Fire Brigade) and Bill Jones (who managed the regional communications centre for the Western Port Group from his home in Moorooduc).

DESCRIPTION

A Nissan hut stands in front of mature trees on grass beside a gravel track. It is covered in curved corrugated iron with a door on the end wall of weatherboard. A water tank on a stand is beside the hut along with two men in casual clothes.
