HISTORYThe house,built in 1954 at 24 Herbert Street Mornington, was the home of Harry and Joan Downward He is a descendent of Alfred Downward, a prominent man in a pioneering Mornington Peninsula family. His wife Joan had the role of historian of the Downward family and was the donor of the family photographic collection.
DESCRIPTIONA single storied cream brick house stands in a small garden behind a low solid brick fence with an open driveway of gravel beside the house. It is an L-shape with a set of steps up to a terrace defined by a low white stucco wall. There are several windows, a single door and a double French window on the front facade. A flag pole flying the Australian flag stands in front of the terrace. A small dog is standing at the end of the drive which is lined by a garden strip along the side fence. There are several shrubs and trees in the garden and a grassed nature strip containing a young shrub.
