HISTORY

This house is the original Downward home at 24 Herbert Street with an added second story. The date of the extension is not known but probably after the sale of “Abolikar “ to Mr Hilbride in 2001 and photographed by Joan Downward after that.

DESCRIPTION

A two story house in sand coloured rendering stands in a small garden behind a terraced low cream brick fence. It has a terrace in front defined by a transparent balustrade, a flight of steps and a low white wall. The facade has several white framed windows and a French window on to the terrace. The second story covers most of the ground floor and includes a balcony over the front entrance with a transparent balustrade. There is a gravel drive on the left with a strip of garden along the side fence and a sparsely vegetated front garden.
