HISTORYThe Royal Hotel, originally called the Schnapper Point Hotel, was operating around 1858.
An underground tunnel since filled in, existed between Royal Beach and the hotel and was used for transferring goods from ships to the hotel. Opposite the hotel on Royal Beach was once a windmill that was used to pump sea water to the hotel for hot and cold baths.
Royal Beach photo taken from cliff near Mornington Park, shows sea, sandy beach and red cliff of opposite point. Vegetation covers cliff at back of beach, with Royal Hotel, Norfolk Island pine, and other buildings in background.
