HISTORY

The Mornington Golf Club was formed in 1904 in paddocks behind the old Tanti Hotel, parallel to Nepean Highway. Owner of one of the paddocks, W. S. Cook, a Mornington solicitor, became the club’s President in the years before the first World War. The Club was affiliated with the Victorian Golf Association in 1906, was in and out of the Association until being readmitted in 1927,having relocated to Mornington Race Course in 1925. Due to military occupation of the racecourse the club moved to a 9 hole course near Dava Lodge Guesthouse at Mt. Martha in 1940. In 1946 a 120 acre site for an 18 hole course was offered on generous lease terms by Sir George Tallis at Beleura Hill the site of the present Club and this photo.
