HISTORY

HMAS Cerberus Naval Training Base was established at Crib Point on the Western side of the Mornington Peninsula on 1 April 1921, first as the Flinders Naval Base on a site purchased in 1911, the buildings not being completed until about 1917. It was renamed Flinders Naval Depot in 1925, and renamed HMAS Cerberus, Westernport in 1963. It occupies most of Stony Point and is the primary training establishment of the Royal Australian Navy.
