HISTORYThe Australian Women’s Land Army was created during the second world war, to combat the rising labour shortage in the farming sector. This organisation was based on the system created in England during the first and second world wars. By December 1941, more and more agricultural workers were required to go to war, and this gap was filled by the women’s land army. The uniform was worn by full time members. Auxiliary members wore normal dress.
DESCRIPTIONThis shows a good looking dark haired woman wearing a uniform and hat. The insignia badge on the sleeve states: Australian Women’s Land Army. There is a sheaf of wheat pictured in the centre of the badge.
