HISTORYThe Mornington Fire Brigade was founded in 1916, commenced operation in January 1917 and occupied this building on Main Street Mornington from 1919. It provided storage for the fire engine and fire fighting equipment and also hosted meetings and fund raising activities. In 1969 the Brigade moved to a purpose built structure further along Main Street near Elizabeth Street. The 1919 building was situated where Peebles store is in 2014
DESCRIPTION1. This photo shows a yellow crane, being used to demolish a white painted brick building. Next door a petrol bowser can be seen, with a sign Land Rover
2. This shows a view of the impressive pediment over the doorway of the old fire station, it has a sign “Fire Station 1919”. There is a man standing alongside the pediment. There is also a sign for T. I. Hast & Co attached to the front of the building. The sky is clear and blue

4. This is another view of the Fire Station, showing the red brick right side. It also shows a sign “Variety Centre”. there is a barricade to prevent the public coming too close during the procedure of demolition
