HISTORY

Wilhelm Minzenmay lived for many years in Haifa, in what is now Israel, where his family were jewellers and watchmakers for two or three generations. He was a delightful old fellow, who lived in Johns road though for many years after handing the business to his sons, Kurt and Heinz, he lived on a garden acre next to Beleura Hospital. In the early 1950’s Minzenmay and son Kurt, were building their business with a solid reputation in this tiny shop. The old man could be seen from the street with his magnifying glass screwed into his eye, working on the watches of his clients. Later they moved opposite to a shop they built for themselves and Kurt and his wife Luise lived in the attractive residence. Kurt joined the Rotary Club, Heinz married Cookie Bergman from Moorooduc, and served the community through Apex
Kees Alers was a Volkswagen dealer for many years, he then went on to motor-bike repairs and sales in Blamey Place. He was Dutch by birth, but he spent may of this early years in what is now Indonesia.

DESCRIPTION

4. This shows the same corner, with a large arrow sign showing a detour route. The policeman is on the right, directing traffic. Summerland Hardware can be seen in the background
5. This shows the forecourt of a garage. There are two signs clearly visible, Land Rover, and VW and Main Street is in the background
