HISTORYThis Mall next to the Grand Hotel, Main Street was enclosed and another shop was created.
DESCRIPTION1. This shows the interior of the Old Mall. On the left is an antique shop which as been closed down prior to the closing of the Mall. There are signs on the walls “Old Wares, Antique Jewellery,
Sandblasting, and Furniture Stripping”. “Buy and Sell”. There are some old shop shelving leaning against the wall of the closed shop. The car park at the rear can be seen through the tunnel of the Mall.
2. This is another view of the Old Mall from the other end.
3. This shows the old Antique Shop which is painted green, and is the centre of the photo. There is a green and black sign hanging from the ceiling and it states: Antiques, Collectables, Second Hand Goods, Clothes, Books, Jewelery.
4. This is very similar to photo 1451.1
5. This image shows the Mall from the road behind the Grand Hotel. The tower of the Grand can be seen to the right top of the photo. It shows a row of closed shops. The centre is Pennyfarthing Heirlooms, To the left of the photo is a huge Jacobs & Lowe-Bennetts sign. On the right it has a large sign Antiques, Secondhand Furniture. It has a corrugated iron panel painted dark green, and a sign had been painted “Demolition Sale”.
6. This image is taken from the front of the Mall, and the Grand Hotel can be seen on the left of the photo. The closed shop in the centre is Mornington Jewellers, and another large Jacobs & Lowe-Bennetts sign is on display. A travel agent named Travelscene is on the right of the image. There is a yellow taxi in the centre in the foreground.
