HISTORY

The Boon Wurrung people lived in the Port Phillip District. They lived mainly on the eastern side of Port Phillip Bay and around and beyond Western Port Bay for 40,000 years before the arrival of the Europeans. Over this immense period of time the people successfully adapted to the environment and created a rich spiritual existence, with the land the centre of life. Some Boon wurrung women were abducted and taken to island in Bass Strait to live with the sealers on the islands in Bass Straight by the Europeans. Boon wurrong people believe , as do all Aborigines, that their world and their history began with the Dreaming.
