HISTORYThe house called Clifton Villa was on the Esplanade near King Street and possible near Shire Hall Beach. It was named after the frigate Clifton on which the Constable family sailed from England on in 1849. It was built by Benjamin Constable who was a cabinet maker. He also built, with Daniel Green, a home for Doctor Barry called Clifden, Garrycloyne, and then known as Clyde Villa. This was toward Fisherman’s Beach.
DESCRIPTIONThis is a photo of a single storey brick home, It has a pitched roof, and a single chimney. There is a central front door, with sash windows on either side. There is a verandah right across the front of the house. There is picket fence at the front of the house, and 6 children are standing in front of the fence. There are 5 girls and one boy.
