HISTORY

Vera Mills was a former Vale Street primary school teacher who was known for her outstanding teaching career and her interest in local matters, particularly the Historical Society, of which she was a founding member and for 30 years a committee member. Vera had a fantastic memory and would remember amazing details of her pupils. She married in her 40’s widower Alfred Mills, He died in 1959. She was and outstanding sportswoman in basketball, swimming and tennis. She was an organic gardener before the term became popular. Her garden was superb and she was keen to give away cuttings. She died on September 17 aged 95.
