HISTORYThe history of Mills Beach refers to people taking sand from the beach for their own use, so gates were installed. The Council had approved the formation of a Trust, which took the form as a Foreshore Reserves Committee of 7 members. Four from the Shire, and three elected by the public. The committee was responsible to the Minister of Lands, and finance for works was supplied by revenue from the rental of bathing boxes. The Committee has done excellent work cutting tracks through tea tree, controlling the building of bathing boxes, providing dressing shelters, establishing car parks, preventing erosion. In 1927 the Committee turned down the request to replace gates on Shire Hall and Mills Beach. They also caused censure when they insisted on the alignment of bathing boxes.
DESCRIPTIONThis image shows the beach, and in the centre of the image are the burned remains of a Bathing Box. Behind that is another Bathing Box painted Blue with a white roof and it is unharmed. The sea is on the right of the photo. In the foreground there is the top rung of a fence. The burned area has been cordoned off with tape.
