HISTORYThis photograph is from a newspaper cutting, and is dated February 22nd 1925. In 1914 the Council had approved the formation of a Trust, which took the form as a Foreshore Reserves Committee of 7 members. Four from the Shire, and three elected by the public. The committee was responsible to the Minister of Lands, and finance for works was supplied by revenue from the rental of bathing boxes. The Committee has done excellent work cutting tracks through tea tree, controlling the building of bathing boxes, providing dressing shelters, establishing car parks, preventing erosion. In 1927 the Committee turned down the request to replace gates on Shire Hall and Mills Beach. They also caused censure when they insisted on the alignment of bathing boxes.
President Linley of the Shire was concerned about the growth of trees on the foreshore, he also referred to the bathing in nude that had come to his notice, to the numerous boxes which had been broken into and to the vandalism which had been committed on Fisherman’s Beach.
This is a view of Fisherman’s beach from a high point. The beach is on the left, and a row of bathing boxes can be seen. In the foreground is mainly bush, with a single tree standing out on the bottom right of the photo. It appears to be a summer day with lots of bathers, in and out of the sea.
