Recovered from a shipwreck, possibly the "Australia"

DESCRIPTION

Glass inkwell with radiating design on lid as found in cut crystal dimpled design present on body of inkwell and edge of lid. Lid and inkwell bounded by a brass rim. Lid attached by a brass hinge.
The inkwell is mounted on a cedar-like base with a carved edging. There is a marroon baise lining under the base. Some inkstains on wood, marks on baise. No apparent chipping, cracks or worm damage present. Some corrosion to brass.
