HISTORY

ANZAC Day school children’s medal, issued in 1916. The medal was struck by the Education Department of Victoria for distribution to school children in 1916 to commemorate the first anniversary of ANZAC Day. The ANZAC forces first landed at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915. This medal was given to parents of John Hazledine, Rye.

DESCRIPTION

OBVERSE - Head of George V facing left, surrounded by the words: “FOR KING AND COUNTRY” and the date “1916” below. REVERSE: “ANZAC” within wreath. “DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION VICTORIA” above and “LEST WE FORGET 25-APR-15” below .
