HISTORY

Lord Somers was Governor of Victoria 1926-1931. He initiated the program of bringing together boys from different walks of life at a camp to ‘play, work and live together as ‘equals’.
A permanent recreational camp was established at Somers on land donated by JS Feehan, owner of Coolart. It became known as ‘Lord Somers Camp’.
The district of Somers also took its name from Lord Somers.
