HISTORY

Somers. Bridge over Merricks Creek, built in 1935 by 3rd division Army Engineers to replace the bridge at Palm Beach which had been destroyed by floods in 1934. It was a narrow suspension bridge of wire cables and wooden slats . This was removed in 1940 by the Progress Association. (B. Bennett, All our Somers, p119)
