David Mairs was an early settler in Bittern Parish. Held approx. 3000 acres.
Made his money on the goldfields before selecting land at Bittern. Gradually extended his property which he used for sheep breeding.
Member of Council for 25 years. Member of first Roads Board & later councillor, JP. One of the first trustees of Balnarring church.
Section of his holding was subdivided by his son - David Jr. to become Somers.
