DESCRIPTIONSmall hand-operated black metal sewing machine with gold decorative work on the machine. It has 4 feet shaped in animal style which are set onto a shallow wooden base. The manufacturer's small oval plate is attached to the base, and there is a decorative gold coloured plate attached to the back of the machine which has etched on it a bust, presumably of William Shakespeare, set above a plaque which reads "not for an ace but for the king". A Tudor style house is set behind the plaque. At the top of the plate are the words "The Shakespear" and at the bottom are the words "The Royal Sewing Machine Co. Birmingham".
