HISTORYA charcoal iron was used in some homes. Hot coals were placed in the cavity above the bottom plate.
DESCRIPTIONCast iron box iron with a decorative brass shield and a bent spout at the front of the iron at right angle to the iron. It has a wooden handle, and a moveable metal lever with a wooden knob on the end situated under the shield. The lid which includes the spout is hinged at the back for opening. On the back of iron is a hole with a circular metal flap which slides to the side and is stamped with the letter "S". Maker's name is stamped on the shield. Iron size 6-1/2. Comes with non-original stand.
