HISTORYMornington House was a large guest house situated between Vancouver Street and Tasma Lane containing 18 bedrooms and a dining room seating 100. The first advertisements for accommodation appear in the late 1850’s and it continued to operate as a guest house for more than one hundred years. The original Victorian villa was substantially altered in the 1920’s. A large dinner bell used to summon guests to meals was donated to the Mornington Museum by a descendant of the Daws family who had owned the guest house in the 1870’s. The property was demolished in the 1970’s. F. Goodman was a proprietor, and the telephone number was Mornington 53.
